We have now seen 3 of the 360 film productions. We enjoyed them all and admired the acting and productions. Knowing almost nothing about the skills of film making we were able to give John Moore lots of tips as well as enjoying each of them in select .Great War moved the class several levels, it was hard to fault. We especially enjoyed the exploration into Beans character, a man dedicated to honourable pursuit of honourable goals.

I just finished watching the documentary on the History Channel. What I can’t understand is how a man of such historical importance (both in terms of achievements and life story) has remained to keep under the radar of the Australian public for so long. Either that or the film makers are some of the finest story tellers. In any case, hats off!

He hasn’t been “under the radar” at all, being a very well known figure in Australian history. A significant flaw was the use of a female narrator, which was jarring, and most inappropriate given the subject.

Had read Bean’s War Diaries at school many years ago and had always wondered about the man who wrote them. I watched this last night with tears in my eyes as I watched the vivid battle scenes that I had only read about in history textbooks and learnt of Bean’s frustrations with the British. I never knew he was involved with the creation of the War Memoral or that he turned down the offer of a Knighthood on three seperate occassions, but after watching this, I do and will be re-reading his diaries as soon as I finish my university exams.

The man playing Bean is to be commended. From what I remember of Bean, he looked just like him and had all of his manerisms down pat. It was uncanny how, when in uniform, he looked just like every picture of Bean I had ever seen.

Will make this compulsory viewing at my house every year on the 25th April and the 11th November.

LONG LIVE CHARLES BEAN’S MEMORY AND LEST WE FORGET!!

CEW Bean – an outstanding Australian. Fabulous story …. brilliantly told and presented.

I have studied nad anllised Bean for over 25 years and have all his major books and the 12 volumes of the History of Austrlia in the war of 1914-18. The quality of the production and the likeness of the character to Bean is spine tingling. His is truly is an amazing story and sadly one that most Austrlians are unaware of …… hopefully this doco helps to fill a void in Australian historical awareness!!!

    Lest We Forget!!

A great documentary, a tribute to a good man. I can’t wait to read his journal and learn more about him. thanks for arousing the curiosity of Australians about our own history. Keep up the good work!

I’m looking forward to watching that movie. I like to watch movies from that era and I’m also very sorry about that lost generation. You folks receive hugs from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
